Review
In the early '90s, when modern rock hit the mainstream, it predictably spawned a slew of imitators and an insider backlash. For every London Suede and Manic Street Preachers, there were torch dropping acts like Our Lady Peace and Presidents of the United States of America. It makes for an odd anthology, but all four of these groups are represented on M Traks, Vol. 1. The collection is pretty standard, but boasts classics like the aforementioned "Metal Mickey" by the London Suede, "(Drawing) Rings Around the World" by Welsh rockers Super Furry Animals (the loudest Beach Boys song that never was), and "Autobahn 66" by '90s staples Primal Scream, a great introduction to electronic pop. Unfortunately, generic tracks like "Absolutely (Story of a Girl)" by Nine Days and "Out of My Head" by Lewinski make the compilation a shoe in for the used bin. ~ James Christopher Monger, All Music GuideTracks
