Review

This 28-minute, five-track CD EP begins with the single edit of the title track of Elton John's Made in England, an uptempo tribute to his and lyricist Bernie Taupin's homeland. Next up is the umpteenth release of the three-song encore of John's 1974 Thanksgiving concert at Madison Square Garden, when he was joined by John Lennon. The songs are "Whatever Gets You Through The Night" (a recent Lennon #1), "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" (a soon-to-be #1 John cover of a Lennon song), and the Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There." (These tracks were remixed and digitally mastered by Gus Dudgeon in March 1995, presumably while he was working on the reissues of John's '70s albums. The sound is strikingly good.) The disc concludes with a 10½-minute, nearly instrumental version of the first single from the Made In England album, "Believe," remixed and with "additional production" by Robbie, Gavin, and Scott Hardkiss, including wordless vocals by Terra Diva and guitar by Dave Shul. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi
