Magnum Photos is one of the most celebrated photo agencies in the world, a cooperative venture which was founded by Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, David "Chim" Seymour and George Rodger in 1947. The photographers formed Magnum to create an alternative to the restrictive creative boundaries established by many major photo agencies and magazines, allowing its partners to explore adventurous subject matter with a greater freedom and depth than they'd been afforded in the past. In time, Magnum's partners included a number of the world's finest photojournalists, among them Elliott Erwitt, Raymond Depardon, Donovan Wylie, Martine Franck, Dennis Stock and many more. In 1997, filmmaker Reiner Holzemer helped Magnum celebrate fifty years as one of the most influential forces in photography with Magnum Photos: The Changing Of A Myth, a documentary which explores the history of the photo cooperative, profiled a number of its most celebrated members, and offered a look at some of their most celebrated images. Magnum Photos: The Changing Of A Myth has been screened at a number of international film festivals in tandem with Magnum in Motion, a collection of short subjects created by members of the Magnum team. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
