Mahmud Faruq Brent Al Mutazzim is a Washington DC cab driver sentenced to fifteen years on evidence he attended a military training camp in Pakistan in 2002.[1] The fifteen-year sentence was the maximum U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska could impose on the charges to which he pled guilty. She said his crime was to receive training and, "then returning home to await his opportunity to put his training into action."
Assistant U.S. Attorney Victor Hou asserted: "This is not a crime about thought. This defendant took action and he offered himself to a terrorist organization."[1]
Al Mutazzin was arrested in 2005 as part of a sweep that also arrested Florida physician Rafiq Abdus Sabir, Tarik Shah, a musician, and Abdulrahman Farhane, a bookstore owner.[1]
