- Prior to 1984, local television stations (of the participating teams) were permitted to broadcast postseason Major League Baseball games (including the League Championship Series).
- For the 1978, Yankees-Red Sox one-game playoff, the game aired locally in New York on WPIX and on WSBK in Boston. Phil Rizzuto, Frank Messer and Bill White called the game on WPIX while Dick Stockton and Ken Harrelson called the game on WSBK. Meanwhile, Ernie Harwell and Win Elliot called the game nationally for the CBS Radio Network.
