This album is filled with heartfelt ballads that showcase the superb vocal talents of country singer Ricky Van Shelton. After years under major-label contract to Columbia Records, Making Plans was recorded under a new label, one financed and owned by Shelton. This high-quality album carries 12 tracks, all of which are really good songs, making it hard to pick out the top few from the 1998 offering. Some of the numbers that seem to have gotten the best word-of-mouth reviews from fans include "She Needs Me," "The Best Is Yet to Come," and "I Wish You Were More Like Your Memory." "Borrowed Angel" was written by Mel Street and "When the Feeling Goes Away" was penned by the legendary Merle Haggard. ~ Charlotte Dillon, All Music Guide
