Man and Superman: A Comedy and a Philosophy (1905), a play by George Bernard Shaw, written in 1901-2. The work includes a dream scene (sometimes performed separately under the title Don Juan in Hell) and an Epistle Dedicatory which constitute major expressions of Shaw's ideas about the Life Force and his creed of Creative Evolution. The character of Jack Tanner is conceived as that of a modern Don Juan who is the ‘marked-down prey’ rather than the pursuer in the hunt of sex, through which the Life Force operates.
