Manly is a city in Worth County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,342 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Mason City Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

Manly is located at 43°17′16″N 93°12′14″W / 43.28778°N 93.20389°W / 43.28778; -93.20389 (43.287766, -93.203800)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.7 km²), all of it land.

Manly is the home of the school, North Central. They are going into a whole-grade sharing agreement with the Nora Springs-Rock Falls school district.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,342 people, 559 households, and 367 families residing in the city. The population density was 933.2 people per square mile (359.8/km²). There were 594 housing units at an average density of 413.1/sq mi (159.3/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.47% White, 0.97% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.15% from other races, and 1.04% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.64% of the population.

There were 559 households out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.1% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.3% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.92.

In the city the population was spread out with 26.3% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 20.0% from 45 to 64, and 19.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 88.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $33,603, and the median income for a family was $41,364. Males had a median income of $29,875 versus $21,067 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,808. About 4.7% of families and 7.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
