Manouchehr Eghbal
Dr. Manuchehr Eqbal (1909-1977) (variation: "Eghbal", in Persian: منوچهر اقبال) was a Prime Minister of Iran.
He was Born October 14, 1909 in Mashhad, he studied at Darolfonoon, and finished advanced studies in medicine in Paris in 1933.
During a visit by Mohammad Reza Shah to Khorasan Province in 1934, the Shah was stung by a bee. Eqbal fell in Shah's favor as he was the physician who attended the bee sting during the incident.
In 1950 he was appointed Chancellor of Tabriz University followed by Tehran University in 1954. Five years later he became Iran's envoy to UNESCO.
He then taught at Sorbonne for a while and became a member of The French National Academy of Medicine.
In politics, he served as Minister of Health in Ahmad Ghavam's cabinet, Minister of Culture in Abdolhosein Hazhir's cabinet, Minister of Transportation in RajabAli Mansur's cabinet, Interior Minister in Mohammad Sa'ed's cabinet, and was governor of East Azarbaijan province for a while.
In 1957, he became Prime Minister, and later on served as a top executive in Iran's National Oil Company until his final days. Jamshid Amuzegar served as Minister of Agriculture in his cabinet.
He died in November 25 , 1977 in Tehran at the age of 68 by a heart attack.
