Fictional character biography

Mantis is the leader of a colony of Bugs (humanoid insects) that migrated from New Genesis, in return for his fealty Darkseid gifted him with great power. He possessed some superhuman abilities but his primary ability was the capability to store and redirect energy. He typically spent time in a power pod recharging his energies but he could also absorb energies sent at him by an opponent such as Green Lantern. He has served sporadically as Darkseid's lackey and like most of the Dark Lord's minions has occasionally risen up against his master.

In the Marvel/DC Unlimited Access series his counterpart who escaped into one another's realm was Annihilus. During these events he was defeated by Spider-Man.

Powers and abilities

  • When power-augmented, Mantis could fly, had super strength and invulnerability, fire energy blasts, dig through solid rock, and pyrokinesis and cryokinesis.

Superman and Captain Atom fought him and were able to send him back to Apokolips with Superman destroying his Boom Tube. He was later seen in the episode Alive!, along with Kanto serving as lieutenants for Virman Vunderbar against Goodness and the Female Furies, when Darkseid returns, putting an end to Vunderbar and Goodness' war.
