Biography

The son of Boogie Kings guitarist (and Louisiana Hall of Fame member) Ted Broussard, singer/songwriter Marc Broussard was seemingly destined for a life as a music man. His upbringing in Lafayette, LA, instilled in him an affinity for R&B alongside the Cajun trappings of southern Louisiana. Drawing vocal and stylistic influence from Otis Redding and Brian McKnight while bearing the preternaturally gruff vocals of John Hiatt and Dr. John, Broussard was barely 20 at the time of his first album's release. Momentary Setback appeared to encouraging reviews on the independent Ripley Records label in September 2002. Soon afterwards, the young musician inked a deal with Island Def Jam.

With Island's support, doors began to open for Broussard. "Just Like That," a track from the Momentary Setback album, was culled for inclusion in the 2003 Lost and Found, Vol. 1 compilation alongside such Americana artists as Ryan Adams and the Jayhawks; that same year, Broussard also appeared on a Bruce Springsteen tribute album, Light of Day, with the track "Back in Your Arms." He spent the autumn of 2003 on the road, where he served as opening act for Dave Matthews Band, Maroon 5, and fellow singer/songwriter Gavin DeGraw. Carencro, a sophomore album named after Broussard's hometown, was issued by Island Records in 2004, and Broussard made the jump from Island to Atlantic Records four years later for the release of Keep Coming Back. ~ Joseph McCombs, All Music Guide

Biography

Marc Broussard is the son of acclaimed Louisiana Hall of Fame Guitarist and former member of The Boogie Kings, Ted Broussard. Broussard married the mother of his three children, Sonya, on The Rock Boat VII. Marc Broussard’s oldest son, Gavin, was the inspiration for his heartfelt song “Gavin’s Song” which was co-written by Dave Barnes. Broussard’s middle child, Gibb, was named after musician Gibb Droll, who often toured with Broussard. Broussard’s youngest is a daughter named Evangeline.

In 2001 Broussard was part of Y, a Christian band. The short-lived band was based out of New Iberia, Louisiana. Broussard's solo career started with the release of several independent efforts, including 2002's Momentary Setback which spawned the hit "The Wanderer", a song about self discovery. A re-worked version of the song appears on his first major album Carencro (Island Records). It was released on August 3, 2004. The album's title pays tribute to the musician's hometown of Carencro, Louisiana, where he still resides.

In 2007, he released S.O.S.: Save Our Soul, an album consisting almost entirely of cover songs. The album was his first to reach the top 100 of the Billboard 200 in the U.S., debuting and peaking at #96: this had the effect of "graduating" him from the Top Heatseekers chart, which consists of albums by artists who have never reached the top 100.

Broussard finished recording the Must Be The Water EP on the Rock Boat VII in January 2008. He is no stranger to The Rock Boat, which is an annual five-day cruise and music festival. This is Broussard’s first release with his new label, Atlantic Records, with which he signed a multi-album contract in 2007.

Broussard's music has been featured on shows such as Clash of the Choirs in which "Home" was performed by a Blake Shelton led choir. "Home" also previously served as the theme song for NBC's Medium.[citation needed] Singer Kelly Clarkson performed "Home" as part of her live setlist in 2006-07.[1] Most recently, "Must Be the Water" was the theme song for the 2008 NBA All-Star Game. Broussard has been a featured performer on many TV programs including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, A&E Breakfast with the Arts, The Jimmy Kimmel Show, The Late Show with Conan O’Brien, CBS Saturday Early Show, Larry King Live and CBS’s Saturday Morning’s Second Cup Cafe.

Broussard is also involved philanthropic work. He founded the “Momentary Setback Fund” to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita. All proceeds from his 2005 release, Bootleg to Benefit the Victims of Hurricane Katrina went to help rebuild Broussard’s home state. He is also involved in the United Way and Habitat for Humanity. In 2007 Broussard was involved in an Entertain the Troops tour in the Middle East.

In 2008, he released his third full-length studio album, Keep Coming Back. The song "Hard Knocks" from this album was featured in the last episode of the 2009 season of Hard Knocks on HBO featuring the Cincinnati Bengals.
