Biography
Marcel Dupré (1886-1971) was the leading French organist of his time and was regarded as a master improviser and composer for the instrument. Universally admired for his teaching and renowned as a recitalist, with hundreds of performances to his credit, Dupré carried the late Romantic organ style well into the 20th century and continued the tradition established by Vierne and Widor at Saint-Sulpice in Paris. Dupré's music is based in tonality with a strong modal flavor, though it is often intensely chromatic and dissonant. His works include an organ concerto, two organ symphonies, fugues, improvisations, and numerous chorales for organ. ~ Blair Sanderson, Rovi
