Heaven Can Wait
Happy birthday to Warren Beatty, 70 years old today. Proving he is not just a pretty face, Beatty is the only person other than Orson Welles to be nominated for Academy Awards in the same year for acting, directing, writing and producing, and he did it twice — for Heaven Can Wait (1978) and Reds (1981). Beatty won the Oscar for Best Director for Reds, the story of American Communist John Reed, who wrote Ten Days That Shook the World. A 25th-anniversary edition DVD was released last month, including interviews and a documentary. This year, Beatty was honored at the Golden Globe Awards ceremony with the Cecil B. DeMille Award, given for lifetime achievement in the movie industry.
