Biography

Supporting and character actor Marcus D'Amico is primarily associated with the stage in Europe and the U.S., but he has also made the occasional, memorable foray into film. Born in Germany to an American father and a British mother, D'Amico was raised in the U.K. He first performed on stage, making a name for himself, in a 1977 revival of Oliver! in London. From there on, D'Amico specialized in musicals. In 1980, D'Amico made his film debut with a small supporting role in Superman II. He later moved to Los Angeles, took a break from acting, and spent a while as a clothing retailer. He returned to the British stage in the mid-'80s, but still continued to have a sporadic film career that included small roles in Jon Amiel's The Silent Twins (1985) and Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket (1987). Fans of the PBS miniseries Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City (1994) will remember D'Amico for his vivid portrayal of the perennially lonely, would-be lover Mouse Tolliver. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Marcus D'Amico (born December 4, 1965) is an actor best known for his role as Michael "Mouse" Tolliver in the original Tales of the City miniseries in 1993. D'Amico was born in Germany to an American father and a British mother, and was raised in the United Kingdom.

The role of Michael Tolliver was recast for the subsequent Tales of the City miniseries sequels, More Tales of the City and Further Tales of the City. According to the series' author, Armistead Maupin, "Despite the rumors, it is not true that Marcus D'Amico wasn't invited back because of issues surrounding his sexuality. The production team met with Marcus and he expressed 'ambivalence' about returning to the role of Mouse. The director felt it was important to find someone who would enthusiastically embrace the role."[1]

D'Amico has also appeared in the UK soap opera Family Affairs, guest-starred in [Jeeves & Wooster] and guest-starred on the black comedy Murder Most Horrid. One of his award attributes includes a nomination for the 1992 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor for his role in Angels in America.

Other appearances include UK police-based soap The Bill, a minor role as Sy Liebermann in the UK-series As Time Goes By, a brief appearance in Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket, a production of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar at London's Young Vic Theatre, and—one of his first roles—a scene in the 1980 film Superman II.
