Biography

Margaret Berger was the second-place finalist on the second season of the Norwegian edition of the Idol franchise in 2004. That year she also released her debut album, Chameleon, a collection of pop tunes equally informed by rock and electronic elements that reached number four on the Norwegian charts. There were no official singles from the album, but the music video for the song "Lifetime Guarantee" was awarded a Spellemannsprisen (Norwegian Grammy). Berger's 2006 sophomore album, Pretty Scary Silver Fairy, was a more unified, personal effort recorded in London, Helsinki, and her hometown of Trondheim, Norway, with collaborators including Pete Martin (whose other production credits include Sugababes, Dannii Minogue, and the Brand New Heavies), Finnish producers Jukka Immonen and Patric Sarin, and Hans Jørgen Støp of the band Locomotives. Fairy toned down the guitars and heightened the electronic elements of her debut for a full-on dance and synth pop spectacle that was only slightly less successful on the charts (reaching number eight, with the shimmering disco single "Samantha" peaking at number six), but caught the attention of the online international "poptimist" community. It was released in Sweden and Finland in April of 2007. ~ K. Ross Hoffman, All Music Guide

Margaret Berger (born October 11, 1985 in Trondheim, Norway) is an electropop singer and songwriter. She made her debut on Sony BMG after she placed second on the second season of Norwegian Idol.[1]

Berger's debut album, Chameleon, was released in October 2004. Composed of rock, dance, R&B, and electro music,[1] the album reached number four on the Norwegian albums chart.[2] The album did not receive an official single release, but the music video for the song "Lifetime Guarantee" was awarded a Spellemannprisen.[3] Pretty Scary Silver Fairy, released in October 2006, reached number eight in Norway.[2] Influenced by Björk, Daft Punk and The Knife, the album was a departure from her previous effort.[4] It featured a mixture of electronica and dance-pop music and produced two top twenty singles.[5] The lead single, "Samantha", reached number six and its lyrics discuss women who change themselves to please others.[2][6] She is currently recording her third album in London, England.[7]

In 2008, Berger became the music director of NRK P3, one of the three nation-wide radio channels of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation.[8]
