Tasmania: a few miles off Tasmania, the island was discovered by Abel Tasman† in 1642 and named by him after the wife of the governor-general of the Dutch East Indies, Anthony van Dieman (1593–1645). There is another island with the same name off the coast of the Northern Territory.
