Petipa, Maria Sergeyevna (b 1836, d Novocherkassk, 1882). Russian dancer. Wife of Marius Petipa, mother of Maria Mariusovna Petipa. She studied at the Imperial Theatre School in St Petersburg, graduating in 1854. That same year she married Marius Petipa and created many roles in his ballets. However, her career suffered a marked decline following her divorce in 1869. She enjoyed her greatest success as a dancer in en travestie roles.
