Maria Sole Tognazzi (born May 2, 1971, Rome) is an Italian film director.

Biography

She is the daughter of actor and director Ugo Tognazzi and actress Franca Bettoia. She has a brother, actor Gianmarco, and two half-brothers, actor and director Ricky Tognazzi and Norwegian film director and film producer Thomas Robsahm.

Following years as an apprentice director, she made her directorial debut with the live action short film Non finisce qui (1997). This was followed by two more short films, C'ero anch'io (1999) and Sempre a tempo (2000). Her first feature-length film was Past Perfect (Italian:Passato prossimo), for which she also co-wrote the screenplay with Daniele Prato and for which the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists awarded her the 2003 Nastro d'Argento Best New Director.[1] She is currently [2008] writing the screenplay for her second feature film, L'uomo che ama with Ivan Cotroneo. It will feature a cast including Pierfrancesco Favino and Monica Bellucci, and is being filmed at Lake Orta and Turin.
