Marie Nathusius
Nathusius, Marie (Magdeburg, 1817-67, Neinstedt), née Scheele, a pastor's daughter and philanthropist who founded a home for boys in need of care (Knabenrettungshaus), was the author of a large number of edifying stories for the young. Among her popular works were Das Tagebuch eines armen Fräuleins (1854), Die Geschichten von Christfried und Julchen, and Elisabeth (both 1858), her last novel. Her songs include the well-known ‘Alle Vögel sind schon da’, welcoming spring. Gesammelte Werke (15 vols.) appeared in 1858-68.
