Established by Congress in August 1916 to provide a force of combat-ready reserve units to fight alongside and supplement the active duty Marines whenever needed. On June 6, 1992, with the establishment of the Marine Reserve Force, Marine Corps Reserve Support Command (MCRSC) accepted an expanded nationwide responsibility, but maintains its traditional focus on the provision of administrative support and training for Individual Ready Reserve, Fleet Marine Corps Reserve, and Standby Reserve Marines.
