Review

Altoist Marion Brown's debut as a leader is a typical ESP free form blowout. He performs three numbers (two are quite lengthy) with either trumpeter Alan Shorter or tenor-saxophonist Bennie Maupin (who was at the beginning of his career), both Ronnie Boykins and Reggie Johnson on basses and drummer Rashied Ali. The fiery performances feature the musicians stretching themselves and playing with great intensity; at this early point Marion Brown was already recognizable. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
