Biography

Singer/songwriter Mark Lind spent the first seven years of his life in Melrose, MA, and following his parents' divorce, relocated from the suburbs to the predominantly Irish Catholic area of Charlestown, a borough of Boston. As he got older, Lind and his brother Rob inevitably got involved in the tight-knit local punk and hardcore scenes. Lind formed the Ducky Boys in 1995 with his friend Jason Messina, and acting as the group's lead vocalist and bassist, released the street punk records No Gettin' Out (1997) and Dark Days (1998) on GMM Records. The band became highly regarded in the Boston punk scene, but things didn't last and though some demos were recorded and some new songs written, the Ducky Boys broke up in 1999 before anything else was released. Lind went on to collaborate with his brother Rob -- who'd made a name for himself playing guitar and singing in the nihilistic hardcore band Blood for Blood -- in the project Sinners & Saints, and the partnership resulted in the album The Sky Is Falling, released in 2002. Yet soon enough, the brothers were again working separately. Rob eventually formed another hardcore outfit, Ramallah, while Mark went on to work with Dirty Water in 2002, a band similar to the Ducky Boys. They released a self-titled EP in 2003 before Lind grew restless, wanting to again lead a band. The Ducky Boys consequently re-formed in late 2003 and recorded two well-received albums -- 2004's Three Chords and the Truth and 2006's The War Back Home -- though their reputation was mostly had in Boston, as the group chose to take things easy and not tour a good deal behind the later music. Around this second life of the Ducky Boys, Lind also began working on some solo material, which was generally a stripped down affair inspired by songwriters like Joe Strummer, Bruce Springsteen and Paul Westerberg. His first album, Death or Jail, came out in 2006 on Sailor's Grave Records, and was followed a year later by the EP Compulsive Fuck Up. Early 2007 also saw him again breaking up the Boys to concentrate more fully on this solo work. ~ Corey Apar, All Music Guide

Background

Lind began writing songs during his senior year of high-school after being inspired by bands like Rancid and Green Day. By 1995, Lind and close friend Jason Messina would form The Ducky Boys and within three years, released two albums and grew in popularity in the Boston punk scene with the help of Dropkick Murphys' front-man Ken Casey.

However, by 1999, the band fell into turmoil and soon broke up leaving Lind with no band.

"Dirty Saints"

Soon after The Ducky Boys' downfall, Lind teamed up with his brother Rob Lind of Blood for Blood and began writing music. Focus heavily on song-writing, the two formed the band Sinners and Saints. The band had more musicality and pop elements than The Ducky Boys, a change that gave the band a unique sound. They were offered a record contract with Victory Records for the groups future album The Sky is Falling, but chose to turn it down, a huge mistake they would later admit. The album went on to have huge success and the band grew a huge following by 2002.

Due to personal matters, Rob was unable to continue the project, and the band disbanded by the end of the year. Hoping to get back to his punk roots, Lind would form a Ducky Boy like band called Dirty Water. Re-uniting with Messina, and recruiting Andrew Mauriello on guitar and John Davidian on bass, the band would release their self-titled ep Dirty Water in 2003. Like Sinners and Saints, the band was a major success in the Boston area.

All unreleased songs written by Lind during this period of time have been reworked and included on subsequent releases.

Recently, Mark announced that he would again be teaming up with brother Rob for new Sinners and Saints album. There is no other information at this time on when this album will be released. [1] As of December 2007, there are no immediate plans.

The Ducky Boys Re-Form

The Ducky Boys re-formed plus guitarist Douglas Sullivan in late 2003 and has recorded and released two albums, entitled Three Chords and the Truth and The War Back Home . Both albums were critically acclaimed and had big sales. The band has since grown in popularity and has toured with bands like Rancid, Street Dogs, and Dropkick Murphys in recent years.

Solo Work

During 2005, Lind set out to make his first solo album. Using leftovers songs that were not used in The War Back Home, Lind recorded the CD and released it in 2006. The album features a rock style with a band accompanying Lind in most songs.

Over the last year, Lind has wrote and demoed over 50 songs for both the new Ducky Boys album and for new solo EP, titled Compulsive Fuck Up. The album, released on March 27, 2007, features six brand new songs as well as a bonus track featuring a live solo performance. The album was released solely on Interpunk.com and is currently ranked #8 in sales on the site. [2]

Lind also played bass on Boston punk band Far From Finished's debut album East Side of Nowhere and appeared on the band's second album Living in the Fallout.
