1980Children of a Lesser God. Medoff questions assumptions about disabilities and communication in this drama about a speech therapist's relationship with a deaf woman who refuses to learn to read lips or try to speak. The couple fall in love and marry, but the relationship falls apart when they are unable to resolve the issues that divide them. As reviewer Jack Kroll observes, the play's major theme is that "we are all hard of hearing."
