Marquis Wilfredo Pareto

(1848–1923; b. Paris, France; d. Geneva, Switzerland) Italian economist famed for his studies of the distribution of income. After training at the Polytechnic Institute, Turin, Pareto began his career as a lecturer in mathematics and engineering at U Florence. However, he became increasingly concerned by what he saw as social injustices (see eighty/twenty rule) and subsequently moved to U Lausanne as Professor of Economics. He is best remembered for his Treatise on Sociology, completed in 1912 at his home, Angora Villa, which he shared with eighteen Angora cats.
