1. Liberia: founded in 1827 by the (American) Colonization Society of Virginia for freed black slaves and named after the Society's chairman, John Marshall (1755–1835), chief justice of the USA (1801–35).
2. USA (Texas): founded in 1841 and named after Chief Justice John Marshall.
