Biography

A tremendous multi-instrumentalist, Marty Ehrlich has displayed just as much versatility in his musical choices. His '80s and '90s releases have covered free, ethnic, collectively improvised and hard bop material, featuring mostly original compositions. Ehrlich's a pungent soloist on B-flat and bass clarinets, flutes, alto, tenor and soprano saxophones. He's recorded with Anthony Cox, Pheeroan Ak Laff, Stan Strickland, Frank Lacy, Wayne Horovitz, and Andrew Cyrille among others. Ehrlich has been just as busy as a side musician, having appeared on sessions by Christy Doran, Julius Hemphill, Muhal Richard Abrams, Leroy Jenkins, John Zorn, Bobby Previte, and George Russell. He's recorded for Muse, Enja, and Sound Aspects. Ehrlich has a couple of sessions available on CD. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide
