Colum, Mary (née Catherine Gunning Maguire) (1887-1957), literary journalist and critic. Born in Dublin and educated at UCD, she married Padraic Colum in 1912. Moving to America with him, she shared closely in his literary life. Life and the Dream (1928) is an autobiographical account of the literary revival. From These Roots (1937) contains essays on modern literature. Her memoir of James Joyce was edited by her husband and issued as Our Friend James Joyce (1958).
