Biography

American variety entertainer Mary Healy was still in her teens when she sang with various dance bands at New Orleans' Roosevelt Hotel. Signed to a 20th Century Fox film contract in 1939, she was sent on a nationwide vaudeville tour of studio contractees in 1940. During this junket she met and married night club comedian Peter Lynd Hayes, joining her husband's cabaret act shortly afterward. Except for a handful of film appearances and a co-starring assignment in Orson Welles' Broadway production of Around the World in 80 Days, Healy worked exclusively with her husband from the mid-'40s onward. The team of Peter Lynd Hayes and Mary Healy starred in several TV shows, including the 1960 sitcom Peter Loves Mary; they were also teamed in the "cult" movie musical fantasy The 5000 Fingers of Dr.T (1953) and in the original 1958 Broadway production of Harry Kurnitz' Who Was That Lady?. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Mary Healy (born April 14, 1918) is a retired American actress, singer, and variety entertainer born in New Orleans, Louisiana. The former Miss New Orleans beauty pageant winner, whose first major screen role was in 1939's Second Fiddle, was married to fellow entertainer Peter Lind Hayes from 1940 until his death in 1998. With few exceptions, most notably her role in Orson Welles' 1958 Broadway production of Around the World in 80 Days, she and her husband worked together exclusively.[1] Among their joint ventures were the 1953 cult fantasy film The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T, the 1958 Broadway comedy Who Was That Lady I Saw You With?,[2] and the 1960 NBC situation comedy Peter Loves Mary, where they portrayed a show business couple with two children who attempt to adjust to the culture shock of a move from New York City to the suburbs.[3] The show ran one season. In addition, the couple were regular substitute hosts on Arthur Godfrey's television programs. [4]

Healy and Hayes were the parents of two children: a son, Peter Michael Hayes,[5] and a daughter, actress Cathy Lind Hayes.[6]
