Masetto (Mozart: Don Giovanni). Bass. Betrothed to Zerlina who, before their wedding day, is tempted by Don Giovanni. Masetto is beaten up by Giovanni and comforted by the contrite Zerlina. Aria: Ho capito, signor, sì! (‘I understood, yes sir!’). Created (1787) by Giuseppe Lolli (who also created the Commendatore, the two roles frequently being doubled).
