  1. Physiology. The concealment or screening of one sensory process or sensation by another.
  2. A piece of theatrical scenery used to conceal a part of the stage from the audience.

2. in artillery fire, the interposition between the guns and the target of friendly troops or some terrain feature which poses the risk of hitting friendly troops or prevents observation or striking of the target.
