Masson was a French publisher specialised in medical and scientific collections.
Masson published[when?] a French language translation of a book about a ficticious genus called Rhinogradentia written by the German zoology professor Gerolf Steiner. The publication caused a stir.
In 1987, Masson purchased Armand Colin. In turn, it became part of the City Group (Groupe de la Cité) in 1994.
In 2000, in association with the language software company Ultralingua, the Masson French-English medical dictionary was published in electronic form for Macintosh and Microsoft Windows computer platforms.
In 2005, Masson merged with Elsevier, creating the Elsevier-Masson publisher.
