Carey, Matthew (1760-1839), author of Vindiciae Hibernicae (1819), a refutation of English versions of Irish history, especially regarding the Rebellion of 1641. He edited the Pennsylvania Herald and published the first US atlas.

1814The Olive Branch; or, Faults on Both Sides, Federal and Democratic. A nonpartisan treatise written in response to the New England states' threat to secede from the Union. It is the most widely read political pamphlet since Common Sense, reproduced in ten editions. Carey was born in Ireland, and his pamphlet in defense of Irish Catholics led to his exile to France, where he worked in Benjamin Franklin's printing office in Passy.

Matthew Carey (born April 6, 1980) is an American film and television actor who has appeared in films such as The Banger Sisters (2002), November (2004), Old School (2003) and a 1997 remake of the television sitcom Leave It to Beaver. He also had a recurring role in the first season of the television series 24 in 2001.
