(b Palermo, c 1544; d there, c 1603). Italian composer, a Benedictine monk. Apart from a brief period near Mantua, he spent his working life from 1561 at S Martino delle Scale, near Palermo. His extant music comprises masses (1588), motets (1590), Lamentations (1597) and some madrigals (lost). His music for a sacred drama in Palermo (1581), a mixture of double-choir motets and monody, was once popular but is now lost.
