Biography

Canadian DJ Max Graham started as a cut and scratch DJ before he switched to the genre of trance and progressive house. Starting at the turntables in 1986 at 15, Graham went from cut and scratch to house, at a time when house music was going through a renaissance period. Around 1992, when progressive house was at its beginning stages, Graham was exposed to the sounds of BT and Underworld. He was inspired by the selections of DJs like Paul Oakenfold and Sasha and decided to turn his music attention to spreading their sound throughout Canada. Though trance was spreading in Europe, only a few DJs were playing it in Canada. Though it took a few years, Canada caught on and made Graham one of its busiest progressive DJs. Kinetic Records took notice of Graham, giving him the helm for volume four of their Tranceport series, released in May of 2001. A bit prior to the mix album's release, Graham started producing in a small studio, with three of four of the tracks appearing on dance music charts in the U.K. and Europe. In 2003 Graham started hosting a monthly show on the internet-only Proton Radio and released the mix-CD Shine a year later on System. ~ Diana Potts, All Music Guide

Biography

Graham was born in London, England and lived in Spain, New York City and Los Angeles before settling in Ottawa in 1989. At age 15 in 1986, he began as a hip-hop and scratch DJ before discovering and falling in love with the house music scene between 1992 and 1994. Max was also instrumental in the creation of the famous Atomic club in Ottawa, and his weekly 6 hour sets at Atomic are the stuff of legend among fans. Max exploded onto the producing scene with the releases of “Airtight” and “Tell You,” both of which became international hits. Airtight was nominated for a Juno Award in 2001. This success got some attention from the world dance music scene and Graham was asked to mix Transport CD #4, which was also met with huge success, and spurred a world tour in 2001. This rapid rise in attention led Graham to be voted into spot number 23 on DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs list, the highest entry for a newcomer in 2001. His distinctive style remains difficult to pin down, covering genres like house, progressive, techno, disco, and trance to name just some. During a Graham performance, a collection of different sounds can be heard in every aspect of the tracks being played: the bass, rhythms, and melodies constantly change and energize the audience and dancers at Graham’s sets.

After taking a break from making music in 2003, Graham returned from a trip to Southern Asia with a new musical style and attitude towards the dance scene, releasing his hit “Owner of a Lonely Heart” a remix of the song written by progressive rockers Yes in 1983. The Video was #1 on Canadian Dance Station BPM for two weeks in a row. The song also went #8 in the UK top 40 Charts. That year Max also had a hit on Beaport with "Crank", an electro track played by Tiesto, Deep Dish and Pete Tong to name a few.

In 2008 Max Signed with Trance/Progressive powerhouse Armada records for a Deal that would see an Artist album and the creation of Max's own Compilation series entitled "Cyles". Cycles 1 was released in June 2008 and a successful tour followed.

In 2009 Graham moved to Toronto and began work on opening "I-Technique", an Apple service provider and reseller in Midtown. He did this with his old friend from Ottawa Brad Copeland, The shop opened May 2009 and both of them can be found there daily. 2097 Yonge St just below Eglinton.

2010 Will See the release of Cycles 2 as well as new collaborations with various artists including Jessica Jacobs.
