Born in 1967 in Pavia, Italy, Massimo Pezzali first met Mauro Repetto, with whom he would later form the group 883, in high school, where, thanks to their similar musical tastes, the two soon became good friends. After a trip to the U.S. in 1988, Pezzali returned with a synthesizer and soon began writing songs with Repetto. A demo of theirs made it onto Italian radio, which eventually led to them performing on the television program 1,2,3 Jovanotti. Under the name 883, the duo released three albums before Mauro decided to pursue a career in acting, leaving Max to reorganize the band, this time with a group of young musicians. After a series of albums that brought them both national and international fame, 883 saw the release of their final full-length, Uno in Piu', in 2001. Pezzali, who was now determined to make it as a solo artist, issued his debut, Il Mondo Insieme a Te, in 2004, followed the next year by Tutto Max -- a greatest-hits compilation that traced his musical history since his participation in 883 through his most current solo work -- as well as a DVD and a tour. ~ Marisa Brown, All Music Guide
Massimo "Max" Pezzali (b. Pavia, 14 November1967) is well known by Italians to have been the voice, and main song writer of the musicpop group "883". He released his first solo album in 2004 , "Il Mondo Insieme A Te". The album was a huge success and from then on Pezzali decided to continue his work as a solo artist.
Max Pezzali was born on November 14 1967 in Pavia, Italy. His parents owned a florists near the family home. During his high school years Pezzali was held back for one year because he did not achieve the required pass grades. It was in this class that he would meet his friend and future band mate, Mauro Repetto. Pezzali and Repetto both shared a love for rock and roll music and it was this which led to the initial idea of starting a band. Together they went on holiday to USA. During their stay they purchased a cheap synthesizer, a drumkit and some American CDs, and on their return to Pavia, immediately began writing music with it.
883
Being a big fan of motorbikes, especially "Harley Davidsons", it was decided to name the group 883, after one of the models of these motorbikes. Pezzali and Repetto started their singing career at the famous Castrocaro Festival, in 1991, with the song "Non me la menare" , also included in # 1 hit LP "Hanno ucciso l'Uomo Ragno"("They killed Spider Man"), in 1992. In 1994 Repetto left the band on good terms to pursue his dream of becoming a movie director in America. The band continued without him until 2002 when Pezzali announced his plans to begin a solo career and to take full credit for his songs. During their career (1992 - 2003), "883" published 9 studio albums, released over 25 music videos and frequently toured Italy.
Solo career
In 2002 Pezzali began work on his first solo album which was released in 2004. His style of writing differed very little from his music with "883". The main themes in his songs were still friendship, honesty, and relationships. In 2005 an "883" and "Max Pezzali" greatest hits album was released which included a DVD with all the music videos to date and stayed at the top of the album chart for 10 weeks. His latest album, "Time Out", was released during the summer of 2007. It proved a great success with the most popular songs remaining at the top of the charts throughout the summer. Pezzali is well accepted by his fans for his friendly approach, great stage performances, and his commitment to his music.
Other work
In 1998 he dedicated much of his time to writing a book. The book went into deeper detail about the experiences that he described in his lyrics. It was titled, "Stessa Storia, Stesso Posto, Stesso Bar".
During the same year he starred in the movie, "Jolly Blue", along with his other band mates. The film featured many of 883's biggest hits and the story was based on the lyrics of certain songs.
In 2002 he was selected to write the lyrics, and record the vocals for the theme-tune of the Italian version of the movie "Treasure Planet".
In April 8, 2008 he released his first romance "Per Prendersi Una Vita" which was a great success.
It was rumoured on the internet that Pezzali was suffering from a deadly form of cancer. These rumours stopped when Pezzali himself posted on the same blog that these rumours were untrue; every few months however, these rumours begin to circulate again on the internet.
In the music video "Nient'altro Che noi", Pezzali's dog, Rocco, makes an appearance.
Pezzali dedicated the 2004 song "Eccoti", to his wife Martina. The music video, which was released shortly after their wedding in 2005, features a slide show of photographs of Max and Martina together and ends with some photos from the wedding.
All of Pezzali's songs are based on either his own experiences, or experiences of people who are close to him.
When asked in an interview which he believed to be his most famous song, he answered "Hanno Ucciso L'uomo Ragno".
