Maxwell Caulfield (born Maxwell Maclaine, November 23, 1959) is a British-born film, stage and television actor.

Caulfield was born as Maxwell Maclaine in Chesterfield. [1] the elder son of Peter Nelby Maclaine and his wife, Oriole. He has a younger brother, Marcus Maclaine, a musician. The actor's American stepfather, a Marine instructor at Parris Island, reportedly kicked Caulfield out of the house at the age of 15.
He later became a go-go dancer at Raymond Revue Bar, a famous striptease club in London.[2][3] At 18, he moved to the U.S.[4] and obtained his green card.
Caulfield made his acting debut off-Broadway in 1981 as the titular drifter in Joe Orton's Entertaining Mr. Sloane.[4]
He made his Broadway debut in J. B. Priestley's An Inspector Calls opposite Siân Phillips.[4] He also played opposite Jessica Tandy and Elizabeth Wilson in Salonika.[4] In 2007, Caulfield performed in the Charles Busch play, Our Leading Lady, opposite Kate Mulgrew. He has also played the leading role in a regional production of the Jerry Herman musical, La Cage aux Folles.
His first major movie role was as the geek-turned-hunk Michael Carrington in the musical film Grease 2 (1982) opposite Michelle Pfeiffer.

Caulfield is currently playing the role of Mark Wylde in the British ITV soap opera Emmerdale from January 2009. [6]
Caulfield has also done voice work. He voiced the character of Alistair Smythe in Spider-Man: The Animated Series from 1994-1998 and was the voice of James Bond in the videogame Nightfire.
In 1980, Caulfield, who was then 21, became the third husband of actress Juliet Mills, who is 18 years his senior.[4] Nonetheless the marriage has remained intact for almost three decades. Caulfield is stepfather to Mills' son Sean Alquist from her first marriage and he also adopted her daughter, Melissa, from Mills' second marriage. Caulfield's younger brother, Marcus, had a relationship with Juliet Mills' younger sister, Hayley.[citation needed]
