Biography

MD.45 was the name of an obscure, one-off side project that briefly united the unlikely duo of Megadeth's Dave Mustaine and Fear's Lee Ving. When Mustaine found himself with extra time on his hands (as well as unused songs) after Megadeth wrapped up a promo tour for their Youthanasia release, he decided to work on tracks with Ving, also enlisting then-Alice Cooper drummer Jimmy DeGrasso (who would soon after join Megadeth) and Shrine bassist Kelly Lemieux. The group's name was derived from reversing the initials of both Mustaine and Ving's names (MD: Mustaine, and 45: Ving, since VL would be 45 in Roman numerals). 1996 saw the release of MD.45's lone release, the 11-track The Craving. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide

MD.45 was a side project of Megadeth guitarist/frontman Dave Mustaine, Fear guitarist/vocalist Lee Ving on singing duties, bassist Kelly LeMieux and former Suicidal Tendencies member Jimmy DeGrasso on drums. Dave Mustaine was fed up with Megadeth at the time[citation needed], but he was still interested in music, and wanted to create an album showcasing a musical style that was different than Megadeth's. The band name derives from the initials of the band members: M and D for Mustaine and DeGrasso, and V and L for Ving and LeMieux (assuming that VL is a Roman numeral for 45, which is in fact erroneous because 45 is actually represented as XLV).

MD.45 History

The first (and only) album released was The Craving in Japan first on May 29, 1996 and in other nations on July 23, 1996. According to the album's liner notes, The Creed was originally a Megadeth demo song, which is on the 2004 remastered edition of the album featuring the then line-up of Megadeth.

Almost a decade later, while Capitol Records was releasing remastered versions of Megadeth's back catalog, Dave Mustaine chose to remaster The Craving. According to the liner notes, during the remastering process, it was realized that the vocal track and harmonica track were missing.[1]

To complete the remaster, Mustaine chose to do the vocals himself and simulate the harmonica parts on the guitar.
