mechanical erosion
Erosion by physical means, such that the eroded material undergoes no chemical change, for example abrasion, freeze-thaw, quarrying, thermal erosion. The main agents of such erosion are wind, water, and ice. Mass wasting is commonly held to be separate from erosion.
