Mechthild von Hackeborn (1241-99, nr. Eisleben) was, with her sister Gertrud von Helfta, a nun at the Cistercian Abbey of Helfta near Eisleben. Her mystical and ecstatic visions of Christ and of the Sacred Heart are recorded in Latin in the Liber specialis gratiae, which was formerly attributed to her sister Gertrud but is now thought to be probably by the Abbess Gertrud von Hackeborn.
