Its breadth is too considerable to make it recommendable to anyone but the few willing to take a gamble on such an undertaking, but those who put together Mega Disco Funk should definitely take a bow for sticking their necks out and not recycling all of the usual tracks you're likely to see on compilations of this stripe. By no means is it definitive, but it balances well-known hits with plenty of tracks that haven't been beaten into the ground by soundtracks and identikit radio stations. This is definitely a good way to kick-start a strong collection of disco and funk tracks, since it's quite varied and travels across several decades. Notable picks include Freez's "I.O.U.," Bobby Womack's "Across 110th Street," Roy Ayers Ubiquity's "Everybody Loves the Sunshine," the Whispers' "And the Beat Goes On," Cerrone's "Supernature," Indeep's "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life," Curtis Mayfield's "Superfly," and Shalamar's "A Night to Remember." ~ Andy Kellman, All Music GuideTracks
