Mei County (Chinese: 梅县 pinyin: Méixiàn) is a county in the municipal region of Meizhou, in northeastern Guangdong province, the People's Republic of China.
Mei county almost completely surrounds Meizhou's urban districts Jiangnan and Jiangbei. This is because the old urban core of Meixian (梅县, "plum county") was separated from the bulk of the county in the territorial reorganisations following Liberation and given equal status.
New executive, legislative and judiciary arms had to be established for the county and housed outside the core (in fact upstream from it), as well as CPC and PSB branch offices.
With a majority Hakka population, Mei County is known as the home of standard Hakka, along with Dabu County.
