Meininger, a troupe of actors recruited and maintained by Georg II, Herzog von Sachsen-Meiningen (1826-1914), from 1874. Their high standards of acting and production greatly influenced the German drama and theatre on the eve of the Naturalistic movement (see Naturalismus), for which their insistence on exact historical detail was preparatory.
