Melton D. (Mel) Hancock (born September 14, 1929) is a former member of the United States House of Representatives from Missouri. He was a Republican.
Hancock was born in Cape Fair, Stone County, Missouri and attended schools in Carthage, Missouri, Topeka, Kansas, and Springfield, Missouri. He received his B.S. from Southwest Missouri State University. In 1951, Hancock began serving in the United States Air Force. In 1953, he earned the rank of second lieutenant. Hancock was discharged from active duty in 1953, but continued to serve in the United States Air Force Reserve until 1965.
Hancock was involved in the insurance industry between 1959 and 1969. Later he became the owner of a security equipment leasing company. He was an unsuccessful candidate for the Republican nomination for United States Senator in 1982 and an unsuccessful candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Missouri in 1984.
In 1988, Hancock was elected as a Republican to the One Hundred First and to the three succeeding Congresses, serving between January 3, 1989 and January 3, 1997. He was not a candidate for re-election to the One Hundred Fifth Congress and today is a resident of Springfield, Missouri. He and his wife Sug, whom he married on November 18, 1951, had a son in 1954.
