Eng. instr. ensemble formed 1950 by Cecil Aronowitz (va.), Gervase de Peyer (cl.), Richard Adeney (fl.), and Terence Weil (vc.) as a group of up to 12 players (str. quintet, wind quintet, hp., and pf.). Took part in f.p. of Britten's War Requiem (1962). Amer. début 1966.
