Plot

This program is part of a series that chronicles the story of the United States Army during the 20th century. At the turn of the century, the U.S. Army was a small organization comprised mainly of cavalry units. By the end of the century, it was a highly trained fighting force with a wide array of war machines and technological equipment. This episode looks at events in Europe from 1939 to 1941, when Hitler stunned the world with his campaigns in Eastern Europe, and the fall of France. Events in China and Japan made clear this was a world conflict. Archival news footage shows the events in Europe and the Pacific, as well as the bombing of Pearl Harbor. America was now at war. ~ Rose of Sharon Winter, Rovi
