Merewenna
Merewenna (10th century), abbess of Romsey. When King Edgar refounded Romsey nunnery in 967, Merewenna was its first abbess; under her guidance the house prospered and princesses were later among its inmates. Among her disciples was Ethelfleda; the two saints were buried close to each other in the abbey church. Merewenna's original feast was 10 February; the translation of Merewenna and Ethelfleda on 29 October was also kept.
