Merlot Blanc

[mehr-LOH BLAHN; mer-LOH BLAHNGK] Also called Merlau Blanc, this white-wine grape is not related to merlot (Noir). It's presumed that the name comes from the simple fact that the leaves of this variety resemble those of Merlot Noir. Merlot Blanc is an unimportant variety grown mainly in France's districts of Blaye, Bourg, and Fronsac, northeast of the city of Bordeaux. It generally produces low-quality wines.
