Metal Blade Records is a heavy metal record label that is home to bands such as Black Dahlia Murder, As I Lay Dying, and Six Feet Under. The company was founded in 1982 by Brian Slagel, who then worked days at the Los Angeles metal emporium Oz Records and spent nights putting together one of the first metal fanzines, The New Heavy Metal Revue. He formed Metal Blade Records to focus on the LA metal scene that was being ignored by major labels. The company has discovered influential metal acts including Slayer, Metallica, and GWAR.

Metal Blade Records was founded by Brian Slagel, who at the time was a record store employee in suburban Los Angeles, as a way to increase the recognition of local metal bands.
