Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare is happy to take care of sick people. Founded in 1918 by John Sherard, the not-for-profit health care system serves the Memphis area with seven hospitals; multiple minor medical, surgical, and diagnostic health centers; and home health agencies. The system has more than 1,600 beds. In addition to traditional health services, Methodist Healthcare offers extended care services, sleep disorder centers, and physical therapy. It also operates physician practices and a physician referral service. The system's flagship hospital, Methodist University Hospital has about 700 beds and is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
