methylated-DNA-protein-cysteine S-methyltransferase

Top

EC 2.1.1.63; other names: 6-O-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase; O6-methylguanine-DNA-alkyltransferase. It catalyses the reaction between DNA (containing 6-O-methylguanine) and protein l-cysteine to form DNA (without 6-O-methylguanine) and protein S-methyl-l-cysteine. As the acceptor is in the enzyme itself this is a 'suicidal' reaction. Bacterial and mammalian enzymes have common motifs.

Previous:methylate, methylaspartate mutase, methylaspartate ammonia-lyase
Next:methylation of DNA, methylcrotonyl-CoA carboxylase, methyldopa
